Where did time go
Acrylic Paint on Canvas, 16'' x 20''
I don’t realize that time is actually passing until I think about it. A second just passed. A minute. An hour. A day. Now that I am almost going to become an adult, I can’t wait for life in the future. However. I also miss my childhood days - the people who made it memorable, those who made me who I am today, and carefree times. I was born in February, which is also one of the coldest months of the year. This aspect is represented with the snow surrounding me. The expression on my face shows uncertainty, but also hopefulness. The lights in the background represents the hope I have for the future, but since my back is turned on the lights, it shows that no matter where I am in life, I will not forget my culture, my heritage, my friends, my teachers, and who I once was.
I am...
Ink & Graphite, 24" x 18"
Exhibited at The Metropolitan Museum of Art
In late-night car drives to Manhattan with my mother, my eyes are always scanning the tall skyscrapers, car headlights, and unfamiliar faces. Everything seems perfect, yet something is missing. Is someone crying in their bedroom? Is someone yearning to get out of this city everybody else admires? Is another girl out there somewhere - with dreams like me? I always dream about unfamiliar, but beautiful cities. Although everything seems perfect, I’m always alone in my dreams, and something never feels right. In this drawing, I tried to show both sides to the city - the attractiveness and the voidness.
